Over the past few days, an announcement has been circulating primarily among atheist-focused Facebook pages. The topic: proof that Jesus never existed according to American Joseph Atwill who will be giving a presentation in Britain this month about his “new discovery” in promotion of his books, no doubt. As a result, I have found myself […]
Atheists Can Love the Bible for What It Is
One of my academic and religious studies mentors is someone I’ve never met, or technically studied under. His name is Dr. Bart Ehrman. He is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is very respected as a scholar of the Bible and is an early Christian historian. […]
Executive Branch Hypocrisy
The other day, as I finally got around to finishing up my latest copy of reason magazine (not capitalized intentionally), I apparently had saved the best for last. If you have time to read anything on my blog this week, pick reason’s interview (by Matt Welch) of the politically left’s Jeremy Scahill as he outlines […]
Ricky Gervais Summarizes My Philosophy Beautifully
A few days ago, Hemant Mehta from the Friendly Atheist posted a link to an interview by CNN’s Piers Morgan of comedian Ricky Gervais, an unapologetic atheist. I think it so perfectly highlights the beauty of leaving religion, that I wanted to share it with you all. You can view the full interview at the […]

Remembering 9/11 Differently on the 12th Anniversary
So, its 9/11 today, obviously, and for the first time since it happened, I am feeling… ambivalent. I still remember that day. And I think its important to remember what happened, but over the past few years, my perspective on the day’s meaning and our nation’s response to the tragedy has changed quite a bit, […]
The X-Files’ Dana Scully: Role Model for Girls of All Ages
As Summer is winding down, I decided its high time for me to get back into the blogosphere! I never intended to be away for so long, but the beautiful weather (mostly) and bike trails called my name far too often to spend much time on the computer. Summer is for reading and Lake Therapy, […]
X-Files Turns 20: “Deep Throat”

X-Files Turns 20: “Pilot”
Pilot Season 1, Episode 1×79 Written By: Chris Carter | Directed By: Robert Mandel Original Air Date: 09/10/1993 | Re-Watch Review Date: 09/10/2013 I haven’t watched Pilot in more than 10 years, so expected to find a lot of things to annoy me. I was pleasantly surprised! #1) The plot is “meh”, especially in light of the […]

Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell
Economics is one of the most critically misunderstood disciplines in a democracy. Your ignorance is peril for us all. Sowell explains complex topics very simply.

The Better Angels of Our Nature by Steven Pinker
If you can only pick one book to read all year, pick this one. I rank it as one of the top 5 books all humans should read. It will be time consuming as its long and dense, but its also easy to read, and filled with gobs of nuanced facts and analysis to show how the world is better today than at any other time in history. Life is good, and Pinker has the proof.
